Advent Blog Day 8 – Jesus is born

I found this quote while google surfing and it blew me away.

“So God throws open the door of this world—and enters as a baby. As the most vulnerable imaginable. Because He wants unimaginable intimacy with you. What religion ever had a god that wanted such intimacy with us that He came with such vulnerability to us? What God ever came so tender we could touch Him? So fragile that we could break Him? So vulnerable that His bare, beating heart could be hurt? Only the One who loves you to death.” – Ann Voskamp

The whole Idea of God as a baby is mind boggling. Every mother has a mental snapshot of those first days holding our children. They are so fragile. It is frightening and beautiful at the same time. But in those early moments bonding process of parent and child begins. That is what God does for humanity through the baby Jesus. Think about it. The all-powerful God of the universe comes to earth as a baby to begin this wondrous process of relationship, of bonding.

I am drawn to John 1.1 “in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.” Verse 14 “the word became flesh and made his home among us.”

Jesus came as a baby. He came to make his home among us. He comes as a baby growing up in the Middle East, in a religious epicenter. He will lead a movement that will forever change how we see God, the understanding of what God expects from us. And, that is only the beginning…. As birth does not deter him, death cannot stop him. He to takes up residency in our lives and in our hearts.

Powerful, powerful stuff. Jesus is born.

Grace and Peace at Advent
