The Journey to Easter

Dear Friends,

Today begins Lent, the six-week journey towards Easter. Lent comes from the Old English word “lencten,” meaning spring. So yes, Lent is a journey toward spring, to a time of when the green of the grass and the buds on the trees signal rebirth and new beginnings. We, too, go in search of this rebirth.

During this season we are setting aside some time on Wednesday evenings to gather for some important reflections about the renewal of our community and world. Each week begins with a 40-minute video presentation from an expert in their field. After the presentation, we gather together for coffee and conversation. It should be a time to both get to know each other a bit better and to wrestle together about what it means to be the community of faith.

This week’s conversation is particularly important. It is entitled Bringing America Together. I have seen the presentation and highly recommend you come and take part. The presenter is Arthur Brooks. Brooks is an American social scientist, musician, and columnist for The New York Times. He is the president of the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, and is best known for his work on the junctions between culture, economics, and politics. His message is both challenging and refreshing.

Please plan to come and join us this Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. We will gather in the sanctuary to see the presentation and then meet in the new gathering space for conversations.

The journey to Easter begins.

I am glad to be on this journey together.

Grace and peace,

Pastor Jeff's Signature
