Sanctus Choir is for ages 18 & up, rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30, and sings primarily at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday morning. We have a wonderful time rehearsing music and uplifting each other in prayer and friendship. New members are always welcome to join us. The youth and children's choirs will see the most change this fall. We will be reorganizing the choir ages for the Wednesday Holy COW program. We will be having a pre-kindergarten/kindergarten music time from 7:10-7:30 p.m. Children will learn about rhythms and basic music stuff. The emphasis for this age group will not be on singing in church regularly, but on learning some music skills and will, on occasion, sing for Feast of Carols and Choir Recognition. Treble Choir will be for grades 1-3 and will meet from 6:10-6:40 p.m. Children will learn how to use their voices in a healthy way and explore what it means to share their talents in worship services. Amy Rhoades and Jennifer Semivan will be leading this choir. Revelation Choir is for youth in grades 4-8 and meets from 6:50-7:30 p.m. The focus for this group will be on expanding their skills as singers and learning to sing in 2 or more parts. Jennifer Semivan leads this choir. Angelus Choir will be for those in grades 9-12. Primarily responsible for leading worship at 9:15 twice a month, they have a wonderful fellowship time in rehearsal and in other activities such as Choir Camp and an annual Choir Tour. Jennifer Semivan and Craig Symons will be co-leading this ensemble. More opportunities abound this fall for them as their schedule is more flexible throughout the year. Consult your Holy COW brochure from the August issue of Church Life for details about the rehearsal times, or check with Brian Wright for an extra copy. Handbells are another way for folks to be involved in the music ministry in a non-singing group. Both choirs are led by Craig Symons. Celebration Ringers is a wonderful way to explore the skills needed to play bells. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 6:45-7:30 and will begin on October 8. Carillon Ringers is a more advanced handbell group which rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30 prior to Sanctus Choir. Reading music is a help but is not necessary. There will be a group guitar session during the Holy COW program year that focuses on music that will be used in worship every 4-6 weeks. Rehearsals will be announced in the Sunday bulletins and in the October Church Life. Our newest offerings include music lessons as part of the Wednesday night Holy COW program. These would be individual lessons for children, youth, and adults at beginner or intermediate level. Cost would be dependent on the length and level of the music lesson. We currently have teachers available for piano, organ, voice, and flute, but we would be willing to expand into other areas depending on the needs of our congregation. If you think you might be interested or just would like some more information, please contact Craig Symons (248/541-4100 or csymons@rofum.org) or Jennifer Semivan (248/548-8915 or bsemivan07@comcast.net). We’d love to hear your ideas for improving the musicality of this very talented church family. If you’ve had any thoughts about joining the music ministry here at Royal Oak First, here's your chance. Speak to Jennifer Semivan or Craig Symons about your place in this exciting program. We need YOU! Winter 2008 Choir Schedule
