Oak Apple Run

Royal Oak First United Methodist Church is proud to be the founding sponsor of the Oak Apple Run. This major running event started modestly in 1978. Friends and running partners, Kim Frentz and Rev. John Park, (ROFUM's Associate Pastor at the time) knew the fitness benefits of running and wanted to share it with others in Royal Oak. So John, Kim, and the church "ran" with the idea.

The first race, held on a Sunday afternoon, was a mile long and had approximately 100 runners. The next year the course was lengthened to 2 miles, later the 10,000 meter race was added, and most recently the 1/4 mile Kids Run. Today, the Oak Apple Run has grown to an event that attracts thousands of runners from near and far. Race t-shirts have been seen and recognized around the world.

Not only is the race a great community event - it is great for the community! In 2001 Royal Oak First United Methodist Church was awarded The Royal Oak Community Spirit Award in part for their involvement in the Oak Apple Run.

So mark your calendars for the Saturday after Memorial Day and invite your friends and family to run or walk with you. Oak Apple participants have ranged in age from 1-90 years old; it truly is an event for all generations. For more information, go to
