If your child is currently in 2nd through 11th grade, he/she is eligible for Choir Camp this summer. Again this year we will be at Camp Ohiyesa in Holly. Is your child ready for this big adventure? We are encouraging all potential campers to invite a friend to come to camp with them to increase their comfort level and add to the fun. The cost of a full week of camp will be $235. Camp scholarships (called "camperships") are always available for children who are a part of our congregation. Contact Kip Tull, Music Guild treasurer, for more information. Registration packets will be mailed out to all eligible children in mid-May. If you have not received one by the end of May, or if you need one for a friend, extra packets will be available in the church office.
Cost is $8.00 per game. We will have time to play 2 games, but you can play only one if you choose. They also have video games available at a cost.
We will meet at the Laser Quest parking lot at 1:30 p.m.. We will finish around 3 p.m. and then "convoy" to the church for Choir Tour rehearsal from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Choir members can drive themselves, but CANNOT transport others, unless they are siblings. If you will need a ride to church for the tour rehearsal, you must let Mrs. Semivan know by Sunday, June 20, so she can arrange for drivers. Those not attending the Choir Tour rehearsal can be picked up at Laser Quest at 3 p.m.
Absolute deadline to RSVP to Mrs. Semivan is Sunday, June 20. You must call so that she can arrange for enough drivers. Bring your permission slip (and health form if needed) with you on the day of the trip.
Angelus Choir Tour is coming with similar format and timing as last year. We will be performing and traveling through the Petoskey and Traverse City areas the weekend of August 5-8 (one week after Choir Camp). We will be staying at Lake Louise Retreat Center in Boyne Falls. Our schedule will begin with a performance at Chelsea Retirement Center in the afternoon on Thursday, August 5. We will return to Royal Oak and actually depart for northern Michigan on Friday morning, August 6. Our trip will include performances at the Lake Louise Chapel service and Independence Village in Petoskey as well as some shopping and "tourist attractions." We will return to Royal Oak on Sunday, August 8.
In order to prepare for this trip, we will be holding four rehearsals before Choir Camp and then will continue to work on our music at camp, at which time all tour participants will already know the music and will be excellent vocal leaders for Angelus Choir rehearsals. We are asking each Tour participant to attend at least 3 of the 4 rehearsals. If you cannot attend a rehearsal due to schedule conflicts, you may set up a time with Jennifer or Craig to learn the music and still be a part of the tour.
The scheduled rehearsals will take place from 3:30-5:00 p.m. on the following dates:
Monday, June 21 (Following our Angelus Laser Quest Outing)
Thursday, June 24
Wednesday, July 21
Tuesday, August 3
Choir Tour is open to ALL students currently in 8th through 12 grades. We realize that seniors may be getting ready to go off to college, but we'd love to have you with us if it's possible. The cost of the tour will be $50. We need permission slips and payment turned in to the church office by Wednesday, July 21. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Craig Symons or Jennifer Semivan.
Sanctus Choir is for ages 18 & up, rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30-9:30, and sings primarily at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday morning. We have a wonderful time rehearsing music and uplifting each other in prayer and friendship. New members are always welcome to join us.
Angelus Choir (grades 9-12). The Angelus Choir will sing on the first and third Sunday of every month primarily at the 11 a.m. service. They have a wonderful fellowship time in rehearsal and in other activities such as Choir Camp and an annual Choir Tour. Jennifer Semivan and Craig Symons co-lead this ensemble. Rehearsals are Sunday afternoons from 12:15-1:15 p.m.
Children's choirs meet during the Wednesday evening Holy COW program.
Handbells are another way for folks to be involved in the music ministry in a non-singing group. Both choirs are led by Craig Symons.
If you’ve had any thoughts about joining the music ministry here at Royal Oak First, here's your chance. Speak to Jennifer Semivan or Craig Symons about your place in this exciting program. We need YOU!
