FIRST Adventures

Be a part of the Adventure! FIRST Adventures is a recreational ministry aimed at providing adults with opportunities for high-adventure activities, interacting with our amazing world, spiritual formation, and experiences in compassionate community. Come and join us!

Five runners from our church entered the Oak Apple Run as the "First ADVENTURES Team" in the Open Team category. Our team finished in FIRST PLACE! Each of the winning runners received an award certificate and a $75 Savings Bond. The team members are Antonio Sifuentes, Jon Cline, Corey Harris, Allison Harris, and Steve Weber. Paul Perkins, another First ADVENTURES Running Training group member, also ran but unofficially due to being an active volunteer with the race. Congratulations to everyone who completed the race and also to those who tried.

Other First ADVENTURES groups have been taking advantage of the great weather, too. While the Oak Apple Run was taking place, the bikers rode round trip from downtown Royal Oak to Cranbrook (about 20 miles), and have been riding on other Saturday mornings, too. On June 12, five adventurers practiced their rugged terrain hiking skills in the Waterloo Recreation Area. The seven mile hike provided a good opportunity to check out the condition of our bodies and equipment on some steep inclines well in advance of leaving for the Adirondacks.

Scheduled Events:

Road Biking - Saturdays at 8 a.m., from the church parking lot, weather permitting. Riders of moderate ability are invited to join us as we embark on trips to various locations in the Metro Detroit area. We'll progress up to 30 miles or more at a pace of 15-17 mph. Watch our website for up-to-date changes of venue or ride cancellations. We are also considering a special day trip ride this fall at an area within an easy drive from here.
Adirondack Adventure - August 11-15. Let us know now if you are at all interested in being a part of this special trip to the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in New York. You'll be able to select from a wide variety of opportunities available in the area, including: light hiking, strenuous hiking, canoeing/kayaking, visiting the fascinating Adirondack Museum, bobsledding at Lake Placid's Olympic Park, sightseeing, shopping, or just relaxing in a fabulous natural setting. Sunday Walk to Church - If you live near Main Street between church and 13 Mile Rd. you can start the day with a little exercise on the way to church. Please let Laura Hice know if you would like to improve your body on the way to improving your spirit.
Canoeing - We are considering a canoeing outing for all ages in the early fall.
